HOW OUR STORY BEGAN
At first we weren’t sure if it was the sand in our shoes, the juicy mangos, the different culture, or the passion growing in our hearts that had the biggest impact on us after our first mission trip to Jamaica. But it wasn’t long after that trip that God began to speak to each of us and lay a burden on our hearts for the children in Jamaica.
We each heard from him at a different time and different place, but when we finally shared with each other what God was saying to us, it was the same message. “Do something for my children.” That was in July of 2002 and we have returned to Jamaica every summer since.
Moving forward from there to create an ongoing ministry has taken a lot of work and planning. One of the first steps was to establish some sort of organization. In 2006 Caribbean Children’s Ministries, Inc., was established. It is a non-denominational, non-profit corporation, recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3. Its officers and directors are Jeff and Vickie Barnes and Melissa Duncan.
OVERVIEW OF OUR PROJECTS
Our God implanted a passion for children to come to know Jesus, and that has evolved into many projects that share His love. We have created a partnership with a mission in Jamaica where CCM helps to facilitate a Christian summer camp for children. Currently plans are underway for the summer of 2017. Over the years, CCM has also sponsored a number of projects including a bus ministry to transport children to school and to church, a homework center, a youth sports program, Sunday School and VBS supplies for numerous churches on the island, and food and supplies for a boy’s home in Kingston.
During camp in July of 2016, God whispered to us, “They need a Bible of Their Own.” Thus began a new endeavor to put a reference study Bible in the hand of every camper who attends summer camp in Jamaica.

Since all of CCMs activities and programs are made possible by contributions from individuals, churches, companies, and corporations, we have to partner with people — God’s people — who also have a passion to see children come to know Christ. This is probably one of our biggest challenges. There is not much “fun” in fund raising. Maybe we should call it “blessing sharing” instead. Now that’s fun! What an incredible blessing to be a part of showing God’s love to others!
